Daily Task Schedule Check - Job Search
It can be hard to stick to a schedule of tasks when looking for a bilingual job in Japan, so pick a rhythm or cadence of tasks to do in bursts when you have time. Or whatever has brought you the most success in the past. But don't be afraid to change it up if the past way isn't working.
- What jobs are you looking for or want to be considered for? Have you updated your resume?
- Where to search - check out the job boards like Careercross? Check out Youtube for tips?
- What skills do you want to learn to add to your current skills? Accounting? Japanese? IT?
- Review your last interview? Any tough questions? What was your feeling about the process?
- Have you worked with a recruiter before? Have you considered working with a staffing company?
After being online and looking for jobs, try to pick jobs that you can speak to with your experience or interests.
- Looking over your Japanese and English resume, are they telling the same story? Can you talk through both?
- Based on your current or last job, will you accept less, more or the same salary? What other parts of the job are most important? Health insurance or job type (full-time regular employee, etc.) or chance to learn new skills?
- What do you think is the biggest challenge for you in your job search? Age or Nationality? Language ability? Too little or too much experience? Perception of being too.... expensive or short-term? How would you answer it even if it isn't raised in an interview?
- Can you rewrite your resume to incorporate new skills you have picked up on the job or on outside activities?
Looking for jobs via friends or social connections?
- Have you talked with friends or ex-colleagues about looking for jobs in Japan? They might know someone or give you ideas on who to check with in your extended circle?
- Have you visited any Meetups or Doorkeeper events, or other study groups you can ask people about jobs or careers?
- Looking on social media, including sites like Reddit and Linkedin, to find any stories from people working in the fields you would like to work in is an option.
- Start a personal project which uses skills and experience you have learned at work. Share that personal project with others.
