There are many ways to practice looking at home networks and the security of your settings. One interesting thing is using a network capture tool like wireshark to look at the traffic on your home network. You can capture the traffic, examine it, see which IP addresses are talking to each other and look at the content of the messages they are passing.
Learning a little about wireshark can lead to further study about the meaning of what you capture and also help flesh out your study of the devices on your home network.
